Oakridge Over the Shoulder Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

The 'Over the shoulder' range from top Yarra Valley winery Oakridge, is the entry level for these guys. It's an elegant, medium-bodied style that shows scents of red berries and plums on the nose, along with subtle sniffs of pepper spice. The palate is balanced and juicy, with sweet red fruits and dried herb flavours, friendly tannins, and a succulent, pepper finish. Chuck a couple of lamb chops on the barbie and enjoy!

Winemaker's Notes

A wonderful growing season with abundant spring rainfall, low crops and warm ripening conditions has resulted in wines that are deeply flavoured and intensely varietal.

This Shiraz was sourced from the Whitsend and Oakridge vineyards in Coldstream.

100% handpicked grapes, crafted using traditional methods.

Tasting note
Deep, bright purple hued reds. Fresh, ripe plum fruit, blackberry then whole bunch derived brown spice and chacuterie-like meatiness. Complex, not fruit driven, and this translates across the palate. Brightness, freshness, black fruits, red currants and damsons bound by fine savoury tannins and mescal like tang. Eminently drinkable.

Bright colour; highly perfumed blueberry bouquet, with an attractive array of spices; medium-bodied and quite fleshy, with supple tannin and generous fruit to finish.

Nick Stock (2007 Vintage) says
The componentry is evident here; you can see the oak sitting beside the fruit, musky and powdery, some brambly dark berry shiraz characters. A serious attempt at seduction by winemaking. The palate has a more restrained dark fruit and mineral flavour, savoury too, the tannins are gentle and fine, peppery and spicy to close. Easy style.

Vibrant crimson-purple colour accurately foretells the fresh, vibrant red fruit flavours; fine tannins on the finish give the wine the structure sometimes lacking. Delicious drink-now style.
