Old Coach Road Riesling

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Not sure where the Old Coach Road led but lets hope they had plenty of Riesling on the way. This fresh, aromatic white comes straight out of Nelson in New Zealand’s South Island and gives us the same refreshment as a bungy jump into citrus waters. It’s a gold medal winner that shines with citrus and floral intensity, has a good rounded texture, a slight sweetness with zesty natural acids. Hunt down some oysters and pair with this wine for ultimate refreshment.

Winemaker's Notes

The Old Coach Road Riesling 2012 has a gorgeous floral nose, reminiscent of a garden in full spring bloom - Daphne and Jasmine in particular and also sweet Freesias. Tropical notes on the nose back up the floral high notes. The palate has citrus characters and fresh natural acidity to balance the 13g/L residual sweetness.

Tyson Stelzer (2012 Vintage) says
Off-dry riesling at this price from anywhere is a hard find, and this is no simple sweetie. Like all truly great sweet wines, acidity is the key, and Nelson delivered in spades in 2012. This bargain style faithfully captures the primary fruit finesse of the vintage in lemon blossom, lime zest and granny smith apple characters. Well-gauged, classic Nelson acidity and fine minerality are perfectly juxtaposed with softly appealing sweetness, making for the ultimate partner with Asian fusion.

Skilfully crafted for easy drinking, Seifried Estate's wine is a medium-dry style with plenty of lemony, appley flavour, a hint of passionfruit, and good acidity to balance its appealing splash of sweetness. Very fresh and vibrant, it should open out well.
