Paddy Borthwick Paper Road Pinot Noir

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

If any red variety is going to stake its claim in New Zealand we think Pinot is the one with the most persuasive argument. Here in the North Island, Wairarapa is proving to be one of those regions to watch. Paddy Borthwick is producing classic boutique style wines and this wine reverently tips its hat to the old world for inspiration. Intense aromas of cherries and plum convey on to the palate along with notes of tobacco and spice. It’s soft, silky and has a fine tannin structure that you’ll find irresistible.

Winemaker's Notes

Established in 1996 the family owned and managed vineyard produces wine with flavours that are a direct reflection of the Gladstone region. Ancient stony, alluvial soils and a cool climate allows the grapes to grow in harmony in their environment. Sustainable practices and minimal intervention in the vineyard and winery allow our wines to display their distinctive single vineyard characteristics.

This wine is about the purity of Pinot Noir with spicy savouriness and bright, juicy red fruits. It is medium-bodied with soft velvety tannins, a mix of tart and sweet cherry fruit with a chocolate touch to the lightly oaked finish and a spicy zestiness to the lingering aftertaste.
