Paddy Borthwick Riesling

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Paddy Borthwick is a kiwi winemaker who learnt his trade in Australia, did vintages in France, Switzerland and the United States before finally coming back to New Zealand. In 1999 he found the perfect spot to translate his vinous vision. The Bothwick vineyards are in the heart of Wairarapa. Enticingly cool climate influences of lime, ginger and honey lead to a vivid palate of apricots with a remarkably structured acid profile.

Winemaker's Notes

The Riesling has an enticing aroma of limes, ginger and honey. Off dry with hints of apricots and a long lingering finish has created a wine with definition and enjoyment now. Time in bottle will show the fantastic developing complexities of great Riesling.

Expert Reviews

Nick Stock (2011 Vintage) says
A single-vineyard riesling from the stony terraces overlooking the Ruamahanga River in the Wairarapa. Headily perfumed, with expressive aromas of citrus and intense floral nuance. Plenty of texture on show across the palate, but the wine seems to harden up and finishes a little truncated. Drink up.
