Cracka Review

Released after almost a decade of sleeping in the cellars of Padthaway Estate, this awesome little sparkling is tremendous value for a wine of this calibre. It's a bright, complex little number that shows stone fruits, yellow citrus and toasted croissants on the nose that will get the senses running. The palate is vibrant and vivacious with a brilliant creamy mouthfeel, toasty and peachy flavours, a fine mousse, and a dry, elegant finish. It's quite simply lovely bubbly!

Winemaker's Notes

2002 was an exceptional year. Our standard Pinot Chardonnay, the flagship is made in the aperitif style. This batch was reserved in the winery for 3 years before tirage to maintain freshness and be in style for a later release wine.

‘Late Tirage’ release will only be exceptional years and believe we will be able to make another in the next few years.

This is a wine of rare quality.

Appearance: Straw.

Nose: Nectarines and strong fruit aromas with lifted lemon freshness. There is an underlying hints of bread dough and yeast.

Palate: Nectarines and fresh bread flavours dominate. The wine has a fine mineral structure with a long delicate finish.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Deep burnished gold; the third and final disgorgement of what has always been a good wine; the cool season and small crop is still obvious, the many years on lees having added layers of character and complexity.

WINESTATE (2002 Vintage) says
Subdued and very creamy nose dominated by the pinot fruit and showing lovely yeast complexity. Nutty and toasty on the palate - very flavoursome with persistent acidity
