Palliser Estate Martinborough Pinot Noir

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2009 Vintage) says
This enticingly perfumed, notably elegant, rich and harmonious red is attractively priced, reflecting its relatively large volume. Most but not all of the grapes come from the company's own vineyards - Palliser, Om Santi, Crouton, Pinnacles and East Base - where the vines range up to over 20 years old. Maturation is for a year in French oak barriques (partly new). The 2008 vintage is powerful, with full, bright colour, still youthful, and a floral bouquet. A concentrated, generous wine, it has masses of sweet, ripe fruit, well balanced by oak, fresh acidity and firm tannins. The very graceful 2009 is deeply coloured, highly scented and supple, in a voluptuous, fruit-driven style with loads of cherryish, plummy flavour. Slightly spicy and nutty, silky-textured and long, it should be at its best 2013+.

A brassy, juicy dark cherry-scented pinot noir with some rich earthy aromas, looking youthful and forthright, richness here. The palate has plenty of weight and flesh; there's a lot to sink the teeth into before a flurry of tannin at the finish.
