Nick Stock (2011 Vintage) says
A landmark wine for Australia and a triumph for Glenn James as a winemaker of vision. Curiosity is rewarded in full here: this blend of vermentino (45%), fiano (45%) and moscato giallo (10%) was all harvested the same day, and naturally fermented in one clay amphora on skins and seeds for seven months. It had a little dose of sulphur at pressing and was then matured in a 14-year-old French oak demi-muid and bottled with a small sulphur addition and not clarified, fined or filtered. To the wine, and it s a gently milky pale gold in the glass and has a swirling mix of citrus, stone fruit, melon, beeswax and sweet perfume on offer - it really draws you in. The palate s beautifully struck and has a sense of essential purity. Gently chalky grip; it tastes of lemon, shaved fennel and white peach but the texture s the thing - smooth, supple and layered, it tumbles and cascades in a complex, beautifully choreographed pattern. Utterly delicious. Only 530 bottles filled.
