Paringa Estate The Paringa Pinot Noir

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Paringa equals Pinot perfection and maintains its place as one of the most highly awarded wineries in Australia. In fact this wine, which is their reserve offering has already amassed three trophies and will send your palate into a heady spin with its power and beauty. Sure it’s not cheap but the best vinous experiences seldom are. The best barrels of the vintage are blended to create a wine of complex plum and cherry underpinned by charry oak. Rich and ripe with fine grained tannins this wine is a sensual treat of Pinot persistence.

Winemaker's Notes

The name “The Paringa” denotes the single vineyard origin of this wine. Lindsay McCall planted the first vines on the Paringa Estate vineyard in 1985, with ten acres being under vine by 1990. Fruit of distinction is born from a combination of red volcanic (Ferrasol) soil, a north facing aspect and altitude of 146m on Paringa Road, Red Hill South.

Despite extreme heat over the Black Saturday period the 2009 growing season was cooler than recent vintages. Small berry size resulted in yields 20-30% lower than average but provided fruit of great concentration.

Rich aromas of plum and glazed cherry enhanced by lifted raspberry, floral aspects and nutmeg. A full and textured palate with abundant tannin and sweet cherry fruit length. An outstanding Paringa Pinot with great opulence and balance representing the 2009 vintage at this site
