Paul Bettio Cabernet Merlot

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Merlot just wants to be loved. It’s the grape that tries hard to please. Yet it still gets laughed at and not taken seriously by some hardened wine critics. However, add Cabernet to Merlot and it’s taken seriously. Made by Paul Bettio in the King Valley, this wine is a seriously structured beast. It has a core of plum and berries with savoury notes of olive. The palate is held together by soft fruit and structured tannins.

Winemaker's Notes

This wine was grown, processed and bottled on the Paul Bettio King Valley Estate.

The 2009 vintage fluctuated between various seasonal traits; a mild Spring, a Summer heatwave before cooling down, slowing ripening the fruit and allowing the fruit to express its full flavour. This Cabernet Merlot was atured using a mix of French and American oak. The wine displays distinctive juicy berry flavours, hints of plum, and black olive, complements the soft tannins making the wine suitable for everyday drinking This wine is well suited to casual pizza & pasta dishes,as well as other red meat dishes e.g the humble homemade meat pie.

Nice fleshy, forward cabernet fruit, with hints of cassis and quite good structure; a good wine considering the drama of the vintage

Oak-driven wine, smelling of hazelnuts. Soft and simple palate with dry red flavours and astringent finish.
