Paul Conti Medici Ridge Chardonnay

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Sicilian passion meets contemporary Australian is the catch cry of Paul Conti, a third generation winemaker crafting multi-award winning wines in the south west coastal region of WA. Paul believes that Chardonnay excels in the region and who are we to disagree based on the evidence presented here. Cool climate all the way with aromas of peach and citrus as well as cashew nut and leesy notes. The palate continues the fruit theme with rock melon and stonefruit ass well as the markings of subtle oak. This wine would be superb with rich fish dishes.

Winemaker's Notes

Nose: The bouquet exhibits hints of peach and citrus enhanced by delicate oak and lees characters.

Palate: The palate is fresh and lively reflecting quality cool-climate vineyards. Honeydew melon and stone-fruit flavours are evident as a young wine which will develop toasty characters as the wine matures.

Food Pairing: Ideally suited to fresh shell-fish & grilled seafood or lightly sauced white meats.

Paul Conti Medici Ridge Chardonnay

Expert Reviews

Ray Jordan (2011 Vintage) says
Smoky and slightly savoury bacon notes on the nose. This is a lighter chardonnay with good flavour intensity. Nice melon and subtle charry oak balanced with a fine lingering acidity. Should be ideal in the shorter term.

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Hand-picked grapes from Southwest Australian vineyards. Straw-green; partial fermentation and ageing in French oak has worked very well, allowing the white peach and grapefruit flavours to express themselves; good length and balance.

WINESTATE (2010 Vintage) says
Tight, savoury aromas with a citrus edge and a fresh, clean palate with good intensity of citrus fruit.
WINESTATE Volume 34 (2011)
James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Part barrel-fermented and matured in French oak, part in stainless steel; has a very fragrant, almost perfumed, bouquet, unusual for chardonnay; the palate is vibrant, with grapefruit, white peach and an unexpected touch of passionfruit. From selected South West Australia regions.

James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Part barrel-fermented and matured, and from the South West Australia Zone, this is a very well made chardonnay, the fruit and oak balance judged to perfection, the varietal flavours of melon and white flesh stone fruit, the palate long.
