Peel Estate Verdelho

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

If you wanted to treat yourself to one of the best tasting aromatic whites from WA, we recommend you jump on this Verdelho from Peel Estate. Verdelho does not nearly get the coverage it deserves and if you were to be going to a BYO Asian, this is the ticket. The intense fruit can make this wine seem a little sweet but go past what your palate tells you and it reveals tropical aromas of guava and mango before a swathe of fruit, spice and a persistent yet fresh finish.

Winemaker's Notes

This wine has a typical Peel Estate Verdelho nose – guavas and mangoes in the tropical fruit spectrum with strong grapey aromas in the background. It’s very enticing, especially quite cold. The palate is loaded with fresh, ripe fruit. The mouthfeel is full and rich, but the finish is very clean and fresh, almost brisk. There is an engaging saltiness/spiciness to the finish which adds an unusual complexity to the fruit flavours in what is an easy- drinking style.

Just beautiful fresh lively tropical fruit dominated with a zippy passionfruit tang. The aromas are quite beautiful with traces of spices and floral overtones. On the palate the fruit is carried with delicacy and finesse to a long finish. Released late in 2009.

Delicate, fresh and lively fruit salad in a precise varietal mould; good length.

One of the best verdelhos produced in Australia hails from Baldivis in the Peel region, an hour's drive south of Perth. It makes attractive summer drinking thanks to its delicious tropical fruit flavours, vibrance and cool, slightly sweet, finish.

Light but bright yellow-green; the bouquet is moderately rich, with some tropical fruit salad aromas; the palate is rich and ripe, again with tropical fruit salad; mouthfilling, and carries its 14° alcohol well.
