Pelissero Barbaresco DOCG Nubiola

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Now we start to head into serious nebbiolo territory with the 'George Clooney of Barberesco', Giorgio Pelissero. He's not a silver fox just yet, but this wine sure is. From a crackerjack year in Italy, it a sophisticated, grown-up drink that shows lots of black and plummy fruits on the nose with a touch of pot pourri and a sprinkle of dried herbs. The palate is smooth and savoury with a deep fruit centre, evident but fine tannins, and a persistant, dry finish.

Winemaker's Notes

Made in the traditional style, that is, aged in large Slovenian oak. The nose is fruit driven with plum, blackberry aromas with floral and herb notes. The palate is soft, savoury and velvety showing a perfect balance between fruit flavours and the addictive nebbiolo bite.

2006 is another great Barbaresco year. 'Nubiola' is the ancient local word for 'Nebbiolo' the grape.

Expert Reviews

Angus Hughson (2004 Vintage) says
Great Barbaresco is a sublime mix of raw power tempered with a suave, sensual personality. In 2004 there is a supreme mix of both and the Pelissero wines show all the qualities of this exceptional vintage. While this is the more traditionally styled of the Pelissero wines, it still has a modern edge with clean, immaculately handled fruit which displays plenty of old school Nebbiolo character with tarry, floral, red cherry fruit while the palate is chewy and finely balanced finishing with a flourish of fruit and freshness of acidity. Great value for 2004 and a wine that will drink well till at least 15 years of age.
