From one of Barbaresco's most revered vineyard sites comes this stunning wine made by Giorgio Pelissero. It's fine, fleshy and finessed, displaying aromas of fleshy red fruits and rose florals on the nose with hints of earthiness. The palate is medium-bodied and fist-clenching, with tastes of black cherries, vanilla and savouriness, solid tannins, and a dry, long finish that won't quit. It's from a brilliant vintage and will cellar for years, but if you have to crack a bottle now, give it lots of air.

Winemaker's Notes

The very best vineyard Pelissero own spawns this superb Barbareso. The south facing vineyards produce nebiolo of such flavour that they are balanced by aging in 80% new french barriques. Raspberries and cherries harmoniously combine with the oak to create great complexity and a wine that will age a long time. The wine continues to grow in the glass, gradually revealing its superb pedigree.

Modern Barbaresco, from the likes of the Rivetti brothers at La Spinetta, is a beautiful thing with the blend of brooding Nebbiolo characters and toasty French oak making for a hedonistic cocktail of savory fruit and sweet oak. The Vanotu is a restrained modern expression with the oak perfectly balanced with classic Barbaresco characters and neither dominating. Succulent and stylish in the mouth, there are complex tarry, tea and red fruit flavours that finish long and firm with fruit sweetness and density on the finish.
