Penfolds Koonunga Hill Semillon Sauvignon Blanc

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

To see a Penfolds distinctive red capsule means above anything that there’s a well-made wine in the bottle from the heady heights of Grange all the way to their modest Rawsons Retreat. This is a smart blend of Semillon and Sauvignon fruit. The Sem brings citrus and palate length while the savvy is all about lifted aromatics and produces a refreshing crispness.

Winemaker's Notes

The semillon and sauvignon blanc varieties are well acknowledged to complement each other admirably – as seen in many wine regions all over the world, with semillon supplying the middle palate and length, and the sauvignon blanc the fresh and lifted bouquet. The Koonunga Hill Semillon Sauvignon Blanc is a delightfully fresh and vibrant wine, best enjoyed whilst young and crisp.

This 2013 vintage shows citrus and cut grass aromatics combined with mineral acidity and a crisp finish.

Light-bodied, but with an appropriate depth of varietal fruit inputs; herb and touches of citrus and gooseberry.

Fresh and crisp; an attractive mix of zesty lemony flavours around the structural core of Semillon; works well.

Since introducing the program to produce a flagship white, Penfolds has worked hard to lift the profile of their white wine portfolio. The Koonunga Hill whites consistently deliver at this price point. The 2004 Sem Sauv Blanc has fresh, ripe tropical fruit flavours with some grassy notes, is clean and satisfying on the mid-palate and has a gentle, lingering finish.
