Jeremy Oliver (2010 Vintage) says
Fully ripened, smooth and voluptuous, this very polished young shiraz has a musky, spicy fragrance of mulberries, cassis, dark plums and fresh cedar/vanilla oak lifted by scents of white pepper, mint and a hint of menthol. It's long and generous, with a measured, deep fruitfulness supported by velvet tannins, knit with cedary oak and finishing with spicy, faintly savoury qualities.

Australian Wine Companion 2012
Jeremy Oliver (2009 Vintage) says
Finely balanced, with length and structure, it's scented with a minty, floral bouquet of cassis, mulberries and sweet and slightly meaty oak backed by nuances of musk and white pepper. Long and quite luscious, with deep, brightly lit plum-like fruit and slippery, fine-grained oak underpinned by firmish but pliant tannin, it finishes with a hint of mineral.

Rob Geddes MW (2009 Vintage) says
Powerful and lavish blackberry fruit put these in the modern shiraz category rather than the Coonawarra regional character. In 2011, minted blackberry aromas with a ripe front and considerable gravely textured firm drying tannins to finish. Needs a decant.

Jeremy Oliver (2007 Vintage) says
A plush, flavoursome shiraz whose sumptuous presence of pristine fruit and sweet oak easily handles its 15% alcohol. Lifted by nuances of pepper, spice and violets, its sweet aromas of raspberries, blackberries and fresh vanilla/chocolate oak precede a round, generous palate of jujube like brightness and intensity. It's smooth and creamy, with deep, unctuous flavours of dark berries and plums knit with a fine, pliant backbone. It finishes savoury, with lingering notes of charcuterie meats and licorice.

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Pleasant light- to medium-bodied wine with ripe fruit on the mid-palate and a touch of spice/earth; heats up a little on the finish.
Australian Wine Companion 2010 2009
Jeremy Oliver (2006 Vintage) says
Smooth and juicy, with a slightly confiture-like array of red and black berries, plums and polished cedar/vanilla oak, this fragrant and spicy shiraz reveals undertones of menthol and suggestions of currant. It's quite plush and creamy, but just lacks the length of bright, vibrant fruit for a higher rating.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Very good balance and structure; fine polish and finesse. The brevity of this note matches the price.
Australian Wine Companion 2008 2007
Jeremy Oliver (2005 Vintage) says
A brightly flavoured, intense and confiture-like early drinking shiraz with notes of violets, menthol, cloves and cinnamon beneath its vibrant, jujube-like flavours of blackcurrants, dark plums and raspberries. It's quite peppery, with some tight-knit cedar/vanilla oak and smooth, approachable tannins. It even holds its 15% alcohol well, for the short term at least.

Campbell Mattinson (2005 Vintage) says
The range of Penley red wines has expanded greatly in recent years, but Hyland shiraz is still the one I reach for most commonly. Always does very well in the price/ quality equation. 2005 RELEASE Remarkably sophisticated for the price. Blooming with vibrant plummy flavour and cut with flavours of cloves, cedar and blueberries, the play of oak and fruit a joy to hold in your mouth. Simply, a lovely drink. DRINK 2008-2012.

Powerful and lavish blackberry fruit put these in the modern red category rather than the Coonawarra regional character.
Australian Wine Vintages 2010
James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Filled with powerful blackberry fruit; superb line and length; perfectly integrated and balanced oak. Trophy Best Commercial Dry Red Sydney Wine Show '06.
Australian Wine Companion 2007 2006
Jeremy Oliver (2004 Vintage) says
Firm and fine-grained, this flavoursome and tightly structured shiraz has a spicy fragrance of violets, dark chocolate, blackberries and dark plums backed by nuances of cloves and cinnamon. Smooth and supple despite its moderately astringent spine of fine-grained tannin, It's packed with flavours of blackberries, dark plums, redcurrants and sweet chocolate/vanilla oak.
Australian Wine Annual 2007 2006
James Halliday (1998 Vintage) says
Medium to full red-purple; the bouquet is rich and quite voluptuous, with sweet berry and seamlessly integrated oak. The palate is no less impressive, with rich, sweet fruit, the only faint criticism being a slightly chewy finish.
