James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Very good crimson-purple colour; a rich, multifaceted, medium-to full-bodied wine reflecting the excellent vintage, with plum, blackberry, spice and anise wrapped in quality oak. Trophy at Limestone Coast Wine ShowÕ12.

Australian Wine Companion 2014 Edition
Jeremy Oliver (2010 Vintage) says
Finely balanced and evenly ripened, this is a sumptuous shiraz indeed for Coonawarra. Meaty, faintly medicinal and menthol-like aromas of mulberries, cassis, blackberries and blood plums are handsomely cloaked by cedary, gamey oak with pine needle-like undertones. It?s smooth and juicy with a smoky complement of vanilla oak and a fine, kernelly astringency leading towards a lingering finish of intense fruit.
The Australian Wine Annual 2014 Edition
James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Deep colour and loaded with focused dark fruits, char and spice; the palate is medium-bodied and unctuous, revealing a long, even and harmonious wine, power held in check, and ready for the long haul.

Jeremy Oliver (2009 Vintage) says
A fuller, but smooth and polished Coonawarra shiraz whose deep, violet-like perfume of cassis, raspberries and redcurrants is backed by fresh cedar, vanilla and chocolatey oak. Long and savoury, with deep flavours of dark plums and berries underpinned by dusty, loose-knit tannins, it finishes with richness and firmness.

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
Strong, deep red-purple; a vineyard selection firstly, then a barrel selection; this is by far the best Penley wine in the current releases, with luscious blackberry and plum fruit backed by ripe tannins and quality oak all in balance. Why a cork for such a potentially long-lived wine?
Australian Wine Companion 2012
Nick Stock (2008 Vintage) says
This has rolled through in tidy shape in 2008, showing plenty of ripe berries and a meaty, game-stock note; mint is in the mix, and there's a good lash of oak to boot. The palate's built on supple boysenberry and mulberry flavours, with vanillin oak, a little mocha and fine yet sturdy Coonawarra tannins. Good result.
The Good Wine Guide
James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Good red-purple; a complex medium-bodied wine with spice, earth, blackberry and plum fruit plus vanilla oak and fine tannins.
Australian Wine Companion 2010
Jeremy Oliver (2006 Vintage) says
A richer, more assertive Coonawarra shiraz with a sweet, vibrant bouquet of fresh blackberries, plums and oak-derived aromas of chocolate and coffee grounds backed by suggestions of game meats and treacle. It's ripe and juicy, round and generous, with a luscious presence of plums, black and red berries integrated with handsome oak and a fine, powdery undercarriage.
The Australian Wine Annual
James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Great color; a very okay bouquet, but an abundance of ripe, dark fruits and even a little fruitcake spice; full-bodied and tannic, and should age gracefully.
Australian Wine Companion 2009 2008
Jeremy Oliver (2005 Vintage) says
Ripe and meaty, this handsomely oaked, firm and assertively structured shiraz delivers a rather simple and cooked expression of plums, prunes and currants, with underlying mocha oak. Its initially intense palate dries out towards rather a raw and spirity finish.
Australian Wine Annual 2010 2009
James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Powerful, rich blackberry fruits with some sweetness; ample structure, ripe tannins and just a little too much oak for comfort.
Australian Wine Companion 2008 2007
Jeremy Oliver (2004 Vintage) says
Ripe, juicy and intensely flavoured, this firm and pliant shiraz marries concentrated blackberry, black-currant and mulberry flavour with sweet vanilla/dark chocolate oak and nuances of spice, licorice, mint and menthol. It finishes with lingering and slightly meaty flavours of dark berries, and without any overcooked influences.
Australian Wine Annual 2008 2007
James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Vibrant, fresh and lively; some spice, mint and leaf overtones to berry fruit; belies its 14.5° alcohol.
Australian Wine Companion 2006 2005
James Halliday (2000 Vintage) says
Medium red-purple; the clean, smooth, moderately intense bouquet offers raspberry and some black fruits; the palate has good mouthfee1 and structure, adding touches of dark chocolate to the suite of flavours, finishing with fine, savoury tannins.
