Peter Lehmann Black Queen Sparkling Shiraz

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2008 Vintage) says
From two top-rated vineyards, spending 1 year in hogsheads before being bottled, then given 2 years lees; it is full of spicy black fruits and the dosage has been very well judged; the balance is excellent.
Australian Wine Companion 2014 Edition 2013
James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Purpose built for seriousness in a category that is not often taken seriously, this dark and savoury wine exhibits sweet black fruits, leather, spice and cinnamon in spades; long and tightly packed fruits and well-handled sugar on the palate combine to make a complete wine.

WINESTATE (2006 Vintage) says
Very ripe plum fruit nose with a touch of black olives, and a long, creamy palate with soft tannins.
WINESTATE Volume 34 (2011) 2011
James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
One of the best sparkling reds around, joining Rockford, Primo Estate, Seppelt and Leasingham in the top echelon. Abundant dark chocolate and blackberry fruit fill the palate, not oaky and not needlessly sweet.
Australian Wine Companion 2012 2011
James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
From small Barossa Valley vineyards including one owned by Peter and Margaret Lehmann; 1 year in barrel before being tiraged and bottled, then 2 years (minimum) on lees. Elegant and very well balanced wine.

Tyson Stelzer (2005 Vintage) says
Queen jokes aside, this is an unashamedly no-holds-barred Barossa Shiraz with plenty of bubble and froth. Black plums, red cherry liqueur and high cocoa dark chocolate jostle for attention. Black she is, and seductive, too, but there's enough structure here to hold anyone at bay.
Nick Stock (2005 Vintage) says
This has some impressive style and complexity about it. It's made much like a premium Barossa shiraz, with some time in oak hogsheads then bottle fermentation. Ripe blackberry fruits and gentle spice, some tarry savoury notes, and plums here too. The palate's supple and harmonious: really pacing nicely, with ripe, fresh flavour and fine texture. It's balanced beautifully and will reward those willing to cellar.
The Good Wine Guide
James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Seppelt, Rockford, Primo Estate and Peter Lehmann are the top makers of mature sparkling shiraz; has great, supple mouthfeel, the flavours of high-quality spicy shiraz; the dosage is perfect; seven years on lees, disgorged July '08.
Australian Wine Companion 2010 2009
James Halliday (1999 Vintage) says
Shows precisely what you can do with base wine from 40-year-old vines, and 6 years on yeast lees; elegant, yet full of flavour; no oak to be covered by sugar.
Australian Wine Companion 2008 2007
James Halliday (1997 Vintage) says
Complex wine; multi-spice aromas and flavours plus plum and blackberry; dry finish a real plus; good length. Disgorged July 2004.
Australian Wine Companion 2006 2005
James Halliday (1996 Vintage) says
Medium red, with some purple hues remaining; the plummy core of the bouquet has distinct secondary savoury, earthy, spicy edges; the moderately complex palate has good length, is not too sweet, and puts one and two-year-old sparkling reds to shame.
Australian Wine Companion 2004 2003
Well-aged wine with attractive soy, leathery, truffle-like characters. Drier style.
