Peter Lehmann Reserve Riesling

Expert Reviews

Jeremy Oliver (2003 Vintage) says
Frankly superb — with a complex, toasty and honeyed bouquet whose lime juice and lemon rind fragrances are backed by lightly smoky, oily and waxy undertones. It's lush and smooth, but still retains plenty of elegance along its seamless, powerful palate that drives its way towards a finish of exemplary precision and freshness. It's underpinned by the sort of chalky texture that makes Eden Valley riesling unique.

James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Rich and complex, mouthcoating yet still fresh and very intense; ageing slowly but surely through to a long, lingering finish.

Jeremy Oliver (2002 Vintage) says
Surprisingly intense and youthful, with a lightly honeyed and waxy perfume of crystal-clear lime juice and lemon rind, with a hint of oiliness. Generous and juicy, its pristine expression of piercing lemon sherbet, lime juice, pear and lemon tart like flavour is backed by a fine-grained and chalky backbone. It builds flavour and density on the palate, and needs more time in the bottle.

When this winery holds something back as a Reserve pay serious attention; these are delicious.

Bright green-yellow; a flowery lime juice bouquet with the barest hint of toast; brilliantly incisive palate with pure lime juice and lovely, slippery acidity.

Jeremy Oliver (2001 Vintage) says
A delightful if earlier-maturing example of this wine, whose fragrant toasty buttery aromas of lemon and lime juice reveal subtle and developing nuances of kerosene. Generous and slightly candied, this rather old-fashioned riesling has a luscious and mouthfilling palate whose toasty, buttery flavours reveal beeswax-like undertones over a slightly chalky backbone. It finishes with fresh, vibrant acids.

Jeremy Oliver (2000 Vintage) says
Faster-maturing and very approachable riesling whose toasty floral perfume of slightly oily lemon juice, green apple and pear precede a slightly confectionary and forward palate of roundness and juiciness. It becomes tighter, more elegant and chalky towards its tangy finish of citrusy acids.

James Halliday (1993 Vintage) says
Glowing yellow-green; the bouquet shows wonderfully aromatic lime juice aromas, the palate being exceptionally harmonious with quite gorgeous fruit and great balance. Richly deserved its trophy success at the 1998 National Wine Show.
