Peter Yealands PET Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

PET means that the wine comes in a fully-recyclable plastic bottle, and the contents are pretty spiffy! A-typical aromas of passionfruit, dried herbs and lemons waft out of the glass, whilst the palate is reasonably dry and smooth, with bright acidity and a decent, fresh finish. It's made for early drinking, so bring out those tempura prawns, and don't forget to squash the bottle afterwards and stick it in the recycling.

Winemaker's Notes

I’ve always believed that if something’s worth doing , its worth doing well especially when our environment’s at stake. Often that means taking a different approach; tackling problems with new ideas to get the best result. At our vineyard we’ve brought together the smartest ideas in environmental sustainability and added a few of our own. We’re creating great wines without messing with the environment.

Seven parcels of Sauvignon Blanc from the Seaview Vineyard and two from our Wairau Vineyard were selected to blend this wine. The parcels were harvested individually over a period of three weeks. The fruit was crushed, de-stemmed and gently pressed. The juice was cold settled for 72 hours, after which the clear juice was racked off, followed by a long cool fermentation in stainless steel to capture and enhance the fruit flavours of blackcurrant, herb and guava. Each of the nine individual parcels were fermented separately using a range of selected yeasts, they were then blended, stabilised, filtered and bottled.

The Peter Yealands Sauvignon Blanc 2012 shows notes of stone fruit and guava, underpinned with notes of fresh herbs. The palate is brimming with fresh/vivacious fruit that is balanced with a long, crisp mineral finish. Enjoy with both fresh and cooked seafood dishes such as oysters, prawns, green lip mussels and fish.
