Pewsey Vale Eden Valley Gewurztraminer

Cracka Review

With a slight spicy cinnamon rose water fragrance on the nose the flavours of this wine are full of exotic perfumed rose petals. The palate is fine but unexpectedly textured, finishing long and fresh. The 2009 Gewürztraminer should cellar well for the medium to long term - up to ten years.

Pewsey Vale Eden Valley Gewurztraminer

Expert Reviews

Jeremy Oliver (2009 Vintage) says
Pungent, lightly dusty, meaty and spicy aromas of lemongrass, rose oil, lime juice and minerals overlie nuances of cloves, cinnamon and a light funkiness. Austere, dry and chalky, it's long and moderately viscous, delivering a complete length of fruit augmented by meaty and spicy complexity, finishing quite savoury, with a hint of spirit.

Delicious varietal musk stick and exotics, ripe grapey dry white style.

A tight, restrained gewurztraminer that might lack right now in terms of varietal punchiness, but will deliver handsomely in the cellar. Its delicate musky, floral perfume of lychees, lime juice and minerals precedes a long, finely crafted palate whose reserved lychee/rose oil flavours are supported by a sherbet-like powdery texture, finishing with shape and focus.

Achieves the rare feaT (in Australia) of combining good varietal expression and elegance; spicy rose water and a touch of lychee run through to the finish.

An attractive, aromatic wine with good balance and length, although the varietal character is not particularly pronounced; the old dilemma.

It's stunning to see how much vineyard character travels through all the Pewsey Vale aromatic whites, from young riesling to old riesling, off-dry riesling and this minerally gewürz. Smoky flint and fine savoury mineral aromas lead the style, very powdery minerals. The palate has intensity with restrained savoury mineral flavours, some gentle tropical fruits, very measured, very fine.

Bright green-straw; clearly articulated varietal aromas of spice, lychee and rose petal carry through onto the palate; a rare example of high-quality gewurztraminer.
