Pewsey Vale Pinot Gris

Cracka Review

Spicy biscotti and apple blossom fragrance with a hint of apricot kernel on the nose. The flavours of this wine are reminiscent of crunchy crab-apple and pear. With rich textures this wine finishes long and fresh. The 2009 Pinot Gris should cellar well for the medium term (4-6 years)

Punchy and floral, with a fresh, spicy presence of apple and pear underpinned by a fine, dusty chassis, it finishes long and marginally sweet, but with a fresh, balanced acidity. Genuinely varietal, it's quite luscious and silky-smooth, with almost a fatty viscosity.

This has been hand made with old oak to produce a complex style with savoury winemaking influences balancing the lush extrovert nature of the variety

A floral Eden Valley influence on the nose here; this is a bright, light white with plenty of spice. The palate's richly textured and nicely balanced, delivering nashi pear and musk flavours.

While it might lack genuine varietal character and emphasis, this delicate, musky gris style is scented with apple arid pear, cloves and cinnamon. The palate is rather restrained and flat, delivering a pleasing length of restrained spicy fruit, finishing fresh and lively.

Elegant and understated wine, with good texture and balance, but needs more fruit at this price.

Pear blossom aromas; pear and citrus flavours on the lingering palate and finish.

This simple and restrained pinot gris reveals a lightly musky floral perfume to lift its slightly candied and vegetal expression of lemon and melon fruit. It's clean, dry and tangy, but essentially uninteresting.

Has good texture and layers of flavour; pear and baked apple; uncompromising food style.

Pinot gris is pretty big just now, but it'll take more than a little superficial popularity to convince all of us. Most gris is more overrated than the Waratahs forward pack. Just occasionally, however, one stands out—and this is it. It has a lovely seductive texture with an apple-y character, and the hint of pears which is the telltale sign of a good pinot gris. They keep making pinot gris of this quality, I might start liking it.

Notable concentration, focus and length; ripe pear and apple; spicy finish and aftertaste.
