Pirie Gewurztraminer

Cracka Review

Yellow straw in colour, the wine is highly perfumed with aromas of pure lychee and musk. The palate is full with spice and fruit components. Youthful at present, the finish still shows a hint of tannin from soaking on skins.

Nick Stock (2007 Vintage) says
One of the better Australian takes on this spicy, exotic beast, showing an intense lychee fruit nose - really bright and zesty. The palate has smooth tinned lychee flavour and a musky waft of fragrance throughout. Finely textured, clean and even finish.

Delicate floral aromas and even more delicate flavours define the wine by what it isn't (riesling); scores for its balance and length.

Andrew Pirie is one of those rare individuals who really digs this exotic, full-bodied stuff, and working in the supercool climes of Tasmania allows him to push this variety's pungent aromatics right to the edge. Intense ripe lychee fruits, bath powder and musk, the texture is deep and juicy.
