Michael Cooper (1997 Vintage) says
The first 1995 vintage is a Hawke's Bay wine with limey flavours of moderate depth. For '96 the grape source switched to Auckland and the quality rose. Grown at Kumeu, this is a weighty (13 per cent alcohol) wine with a pleasing depth of ripe melon/capsicum flavours and fresh, tangy acidity. (The new Yelas Winemaker's Reserve Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 1997 is a big wine (13. 5 per cent alcohol) with ripe melon/herbal flavours and a rounded finish. )
