Pondalowie Vineyard Blend

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

A spin on the traditional Australian blend of Shiraz and Cabernet, this wine is created at harvest when varieties are chosen and co-fermented. The blend is different, harvest to harvest, though the combination is always fascinating and very drinkable!

Typically lifted aromas of dark cherries and raspberries, cinnamon, nutmeg and subtle toasty oak intensify on the soft, rounded palate that is in great balance with its lingering finish. Enjoy this wine with a gourmet pizza or antipasto of chorizio, olives, parma ham and shavings of parmesan. Intended for drinking now or cellar for up to 5 years.

Pondalowie Vineyards has achieved a 5 star winery rating in the 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 wine companions. In addition, in 2008, 2010 and 2012 they were awarded 5 red stars indicating they are an “outstanding winery regularly producing wines of exemplary quality and typicity.”

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
A blend of shiraz, cabernet and tempranillo picked at the same time and co-fermented. The vivid purple-crimson colour sets the antennae waving, and not without reason; a totally delicious wine with a sparkling stream of brilliantly flavoured red (dominant) and black fruits, the tannins with a most unusual, but delicious, sheen to their flavour and texture. Outstanding value

Ken Gargett (2005 Vintage) says
65% shiraz, 30% cabernet and the rest is tempranillo in this terrific mid-weight red that will enhance the reputations of: the winery, Dominic Morris's winemaking and the Bendigo region. Two trios in the one hit. Keep an eye on this winery and this place. This is a wine with the lot, and a good example of why not all wine has to knock the nose off your face to be enjoyable. One of those drinks that just slips down—perhaps a little too easily.
