Preveli Wines Cabernet Merlot

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Like old bed fellows Cabernet and Merlot cling to each other with mutual respect. In the Margaret River this blend is popular as it throws a bit of colourful Ying and Yang into the glass. The main reason is to achieve balance and this wine from Prevelli has it in spades. Typical characters of cassis, cedar and blackcurrant the wine delivers dark chocolate, tobacco and chocolate all framed by supple tannins.

Winemaker's Notes

The 2010 vintage started warm and finished cool, creating wonderful depths of flavour, from our Estate's hand picked fruit. A fresh nose of mulberry and cranberry is wrapped in a hint of vanilla and cedar from the well integrated French oak. The palate is crafted from finely grained but chalky tannins, showing generous length and elegance. Cellar up to seven years.

WINESTATE (2010 Vintage) says
James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Clear crimson; fragrant red berry fruits on the bouquet have a distinct overlay of mulberry, the palate picking up all of the calling cards of the bouquet, setting them in a medium- to full-bodied framework, juicy notes offset by quality French oak and fine tannins. Has a great future.

A wine that captures the character of this vintage rather well. Aromas of black currant and leafy tobacco characters. There is a nice hint of spices and herbs. The palate is tight and controlled with fine grained tannins and quality oak in support. It's juicy in the middle palate.

Dusty oak characters dominate the nose. Great palate length, good balance. Fresh and appealing.
WINESTATE Volume 34 (2011)
James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Highly polished and detailed bouquet of cassis, redcurrant and clove; the palate is fleshy and fine, with the oak playing a dominant role at this early stage; toasty, juicy and succulent to conclude.

These guys often slip under the radar when it comes to quality red wines in Margaret River and yet this perfectly formed and expertly made cabernet merlot blend is a beauty. Lifted red fruits on the nose with a hint of leafiness. The palate is soft and fleshy with fine chalky tannin and fine grained subtle oak in support. Lingering sweet fruit intensity is held to a controlled long finish.

A classic Margaret River cabernet merlot with the those intense leafy blackcurrant aromas plus some back olive and savour plum influence. The palate is robust and dense with excellent fruit concentration. Balanced and generous with a long finish.

WINESTATE (2007 Vintage) says
Lifted, leafy, spearmint bouquet with a very attractive oak influence. Has great palate weight, is very complex, has a tight structure and is loaded with truffle and chocolate-like flavours.

James Halliday (2005 Vintage) says
Good varietal intensity; cassis and cedar, and fine-grained tannins; quite fresh and lively on the finish, with understated elegant texture
Australian Wine Companion 2009 2008
James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Light- to medium-bodied; a supple mix of red fruits and forest/black olive notes; thins out fractionally on the finish.
