Preveli Wines Pinot Noir

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Pinot is not the first variety that jumps to mind when you mention the Margaret River however the clever people at Prevelli have somehow created one that is very convincing. Elegantly structured it would be great with a piece of meaty fish or game dishes. It has a core of red fruit and florals with a savoury edge before a drying tannin finish that ends long and will cellar well.

Winemaker's Notes

A warm summer kick started the 2010 vintage, with milder conditions prevailing. Attentive, traditional techniques saw this Estate fruit hand picked, then open fermenter cold soaked and hand plunged with a batch of whole bunch maceration.

An alluring nose layered with black cherries and some dried orange rind and savoury herbs, follows through on the palate with earthy elements, balancing acidity and lovely juiciness. Subtlety was created with extended lees contact and barrel maturation in one year old Burgundian barrels for nine months, adding a layer of texture.

Ray Jordan (2008 Vintage) says
Medium bodied tightly structure Pinot showing some subtle varietal characters of sour cherry and spice. The fine tannins and fine grained oak add some palate support. It's still rather restrained but there is good fruit depth in there. A medium term cellaring wine.

This is a pretty smart pinot Noir. There's lots of interesting cherry and stewed fruit characters on the nose merging seamlessly with some nice cedary oak. The palate shows that cedary poking through some soft and supple fruit flavours. A tighter style with some palate firmness.
