This sultry Italian grape is a bit like pinot noir, but with a bit more tannins, which means it matches well with foods such as roast lamb, stews and even a rich mushroom risotto. This offering out of the Adelaide hills is made by Steve Pannell, and shows pretty, fragrant smells of rose florals, ripe cherries, soft spices and earth float out of the glass, whilst the palate is medium-bodied and cherry-like, with licks of savouriness and toast, a fine, solid line of tannins, and a spiced cherry finish.
Unmistakably Nebbiolo! A great introduction to the variety: rolling, persistent tannins, elemental spiciness and cherry pith, and, as Ketih Tulloch put it, hints of jam and spice swimming around in an amazing cloud.
