Punt Road Botrytis Semillon (500ml)

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Botrytis means this is more of a dessert-style of wine, and what a plush little number it is! Candied orange rind, melted honey, lemons and slight marzipan smells decorate the nose, whilst the palate is sweet and rich, with more orange-like flavours, and a bolt of acidity cleaning up the finish. Great with soft cheeses or a creme brulee.

Winemaker's Notes

Nose: It has lifted aromas of marmalade, honey, and citrus flower.

Palate: The palate is deliciously sweet and intense, showing a huge range of flavours from honey through to mandarin. Fresh acidity and a clean finish has become a hallmark of the Punt Road Botrytis style.

Practice makes perfect; complex and rich, with strong botrytis giving mandarin, cumquat and apricot flavours coated with honey and then a squeeze of lemon acidity. 375 ml.

Nick Stock (2009 Vintage) says
A very intense and striking botrytis semillon, this carries trademark orange and cumquat fruit aromas, candied peel and gently sweet honeysuckle fragrance. The palate's intense and precise, with dried orange and cumquat, some marmalade-like flavour and a handsomely balanced finish. Superb wine.

Glowing gold; a complex bouquet, with notes of cumquat, cinnamon and nutmeg; with the advent of the new, low-alcohol style for botrytis semillon; has delicacy.

James Halliday (2006 Vintage) says
Brilliant green-yellow; cumquat, honey, mandarin and butterscotch; very good acid balance to a seductive wine. The front label incorrectly shows Yarra Valley as the region, the back label acknowledging Riverina.

Soft cumquat, tropical and peach flavours, the oak subliminal. Single vineyard/Riverland.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Luscious yellow peach, cumquat and crystallised fruit flavours balanced by acidity; length and verve. Riverina.

Yellow-gold; nicely balanced peachy/apricot fruit; good acidity, good length.
Australian Wine Companion 2006 2005
James Halliday (2002 Vintage) says
Quite intense mandarin/cumquat fruit; good acidity; subtle oak.
Australian Wine Companion 2005 2004
James Halliday (2001 Vintage) says
Medium to full yellow-green; a rich and complex bouquet ranges through mandarin, peach and cumquat; the intense but nicely balanced palate follows those fruit characteristics; nicely weighted and good length. From the Nehme Vineyard in the Riverina.
