Barossa Valley tempranillo. Not a combination of words you see all too often. A cool-ish vintage has produced a smooth, even- tempered wine with popular drinking appeal written all over it. Blueberries, cola, snips of chocolate and chicory. Best recommendation of all? When the price was revealed, I had to do a double take.

Novillo is Spanish for young bull, grapes come from a number of small vineyards across the Barossa Valley, and spent 6-9 days in various fermentations, before 10 months in used French puncheons. The end result is a very seductive tempranillo, flush with raspberry, spices and dark cherry fruit, bolstered by soft tannins. Top Value. 13%.
