Quinta Sardonia QS2 Tempranillo

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

From the man that brings us the wonderful Dominio De Pingus out of Ribera Del Duero comes this belter of a tempranillo blend from the neighbouring region of Tierra de Castilla y Leon. Produced biodynamically, it's a full-bodied style at around 15% alcohol, and shows plush aromas of ripe, squished red berries, vanilla, deli-meats, star anise and earthy savouriness on the nose before the palate chimes in with powerful red fruit and savoury flavours, generous hits of toasted vanilla oak, surprisingly approachable tannins, and a smooth, almost nutty finish. It doesn't show its alcohol, and would be great with a juicy lamb shank.

Winemaker's Notes

Includes the big old D.O.’s of Valdepenas and La Mancha, new sub-region D.O.’s within La Mancha such as D.O. Ucles and Ribera del Jucar, as well as “super country wines” simply labelled Tierras de Castille.

The brainchild of Peter Sisseck (Dominio de Pingus owner-creator), QS is located just outside the western border of Ribera del Duero (thus Tierras de Castille y León) in a high altitude ridge-and-valley system, planted and nurtured from scratch.

Blueberry with ginger jube, dark cola, licorice, briar/bramble and cowhide. Bright fresh palate, great energy; elegant, savoury, composed. Silky fruit and a moreish finish. 13 months French oak, 15% in concrete eggs.
