We love tasting wines by themselves at dinner, but in the thick of this book's production we have to taste many wines in succession. Sometimes such circumstances favour a wine and sometimes they don't - but this wine was outclassed, on the day we tasted it, by similarly priced rivals. Nice enough wine though it tastes a bit confected, obvious even. It's no t supposed to be rocket science so that's not necessarily a bad thing. I tastes surprisingly minty, but also offers red fruits and white pepper. It has fine soft tannins and decent balance. It's not a bad drink.

This is a smooth, medium-bodied quaffable red that has ripe redcurrant and red cherry flavours, and balanced tannins. Decent quality at a fair price

Interesting style, with apple and guava-like aromas and flavours mixed with toasty oak. Quite sweet.

Light- to medium-bodied; clean plum and black cherry fruit; cheap and cheerful. Neither in Europe nor Australia is there any definition of what constitutes an old vine, but it's possible these could date back to 1930.

Well-made; light- to medium-bodied plum, blackberry and chocolate; not complex but flavoursome, with a twitch of sweetness.
