Reillys Dry Land Old Bush Vine Grenache Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Sourced from fruit off 90-year-old vines, saying this if a concentrated number would be an understatement! Weighing in at 15.7% alcohol, it's not a wine for the meek, and shows lots of ultra-ripe raspberries and plums, with hits of fruitcake, licorice and pepper spices. The palate is full-blooded and plump, with a compact core of dark spicy fruits, a solid line of tannins, and a long, smooth, warm finish. A real big red wine lovers delight!

Winemaker's Notes

Hand picking and prolonged fermentation of our Grenache (60%) blended with Dry Land Shiraz (40%) has resulted in sweet lifted aromas of blackberry, pepper and liquorice with flavours of dark fruit and chocolate. The wine has a silky mouth feel with firm tannins and great persistence on the palate.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2007 Vintage) says
Despite coming from a 1919 block of bush-pruned vines, hand-picked and open-fermented, the colour remains stubbornly light, although the hue is good; the palate is a similar conundrum, full of flavour, yet distinctly hot on the finish; it has to be respected, even if not loved.
