Reillys Watervale Riesling

Expert Reviews

Tyson Stelzer (2012 Vintage) says
I had absolutely no idea of the price of this classic and refined riesling when I tasted it for the first time this week, and I was completely floored when I later discovered that it can be yours for the measly sum of $14 (Purvis Cellars). It proclaims a much higher value in its even and harmonious flow of lime blossom perfume and granny smith apple fruit over softly mineral, chalky Watervale texture.

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Watervale Riesling 2012 A generously proportioned and fleshy Riesling, with lime and lemon fruit; the acidity is there, but is not obvious. Early-developing style, not typical of the vintage.

James Halliday (2011 Vintage) says
Bright green-quartz; the bouquet offers a mix of spice and citrus, with some overtones of gruner veltliner, and the palate has layers of sweet citrus fruit, the acidity quite soft, rewarding early drinking.

The house style gives these wines a fuller body with fast maturing juicy pineapple and fruit salad flavours than their local counterparts.

Has everything that the Barking Mad lacks; fine, juicy, lime-accented fruit and excellent line and length; by fur the best value of the two.

Watervale gives these wines a fuller bodied and more juicy fruit salad flavour than their Victorian counterparts.

Far more elegant than the Barking Mad; does take its time to open up its floral aromas, which lead into a mix of citrus and apple on the palate.

Lively and lissome, with bright, fresh apple, citrus and mineral flavours; long finish.

Jeremy Oliver (2005 Vintage) says
A pretty, tightly sculpted, long and dry riesling with a delicate floral and citrusy perfume and a long, smooth and supple palate. Its bright, fresh and juicy expression of lime and lemon fruit and underlying musky influences finishes crisp and long.

Bright green-straw; abundant depth and richness; has already developed into a very different style. Who says screwcaps prevent development?

Jeremy Oliver (2003 Vintage) says
Restrianed aromas of pear and apple with dusty, citrusy undertones. Long dry and austere its pleasing, length of lemony fruit culminates in a refreshing steely finish. Should develop well.

Voluminous, rich citrus and tropical fruit aromas; voluptuous mouthfeel replicating the bouquet. For immediate consumption.

Light straw-green; a classic, clear bouquet with a balance between lime, mineral and slate aromas is followed by a palate with abundant flavour and richness provided by ripe citrus fruit. Drink sooner rather than later.
