Mature, complex wine drinking well now. Malty, chocolaty aromas and lovely soft, ripe flavours.

Peter Forrestal (2005 Vintage) says
Here's a quality newcomer. The Watson Wine Group has very quickly become a major player in Coonawarra - it describes the company as the largest independent grape grower in the region with a potential production of 400 000 cases. They now have more than 400 hectares in three vineyards close to the Coonawarra township. The budget-priced Rex Watson range is the first releases. The 2005 Rex Watson Shiraz won Blue Gold at the Sydney International Top 100, although my preference is for this Cabernet. It's made by Roger Harbord, who was Chief Winemaker at Normans and now has his own brand. The 2005 Rex Watson Cabernet is soft, round and very approachable; has bright, persistent, redcurrant and red cherry flavours, smooth attractive texture and ripe, balanced tannins.
