This Nelson-based producer farms its vines according to organic and biodynamic principles, and the fruit on show here is quite bold on the nose. Aromas of dark and black berry fruits mesh with deep spice, roast game, licorice and lightly smoked oak. A snappy gait on the palate, sandy, ripe tannins and a stony exit make for a most enjoyable drink.

This Nelson producer has struck something clean and complex in 2010, with a gently meaty, ferment-derived complexity sitting across some toasty oak and an undercurrent of ripe red- and dark-cherry fruits - a superb nose. The palate delivers an array of smoky, ripe-cherry and cassis fruit flavours; tannins are smooth and sturdy, and there's a creamy, gently meaty finish.
