The stunning quality of Rolfe and Lois Mills's perfumed, concentrated Lake Wanaka red established it as one of New Zealand's finest Pinot Noirs, and Central Otago's first classic wine. The 1991 vintage is superbly rich and complex, its strong wood flavours balanced by bold, savoury fruit The '93, from a cool vintage, slightly lacks warmth and roundness, but is very fragrant, fresh and lively, with excellent depth of raspberryish, spicy, oaky flavour. The wine is typically alluring in its youth, yet retains its cool-climate freshness for a long time and is worth cellaring for five years; perhaps longer. There is no '94 or '95.
