Rochford Macedon Ranges Pinot Gris

Cracka Review

This wine is mid straw in colour. The nose shows a fine perfume of fresh pear combined with stone fruit and spicy oak characters. The palate is tightly structured with subtle flavours, lees complexity and fine acidity. The finish is long with just a touch of classic Pinot Gris firmness.

Jeremy Oliver (2009 Vintage) says
A competent, if marginally sweet style with a spicy, dusty bouquet of white peach, pear and apple with nutty, cashew-like undertones and a hint of waxiness. Round and creamy, it's moderately long and generous, with intense, spicy fruit finishing with fresh acids and a hint of butter. It just lacks genuine shape and focus.

Spicy edges to the primary pear fruit lift the wine on bouquet and palate; good mouthfeel and length.

Generous and quite elegant, soft and mellow, with a lightly floral, estery aroma of peach, pear and apple, backed by spicy suggestions of cloves and cinnamon. Round and juicy, with pleasing richness, length and texture, its lingering fruit finishes clean and refreshing. Pleasingly varietal.

Bright green-straw; beautifully made, with plenty of fruit, even if it is not distinctively varietal; as good as they come, Gold medal Macedon Ranges Wine Exhibition '06.

Vibrant colour, aroma and lemony flavour; not especially varietal, but has zip and presence.

Jeremy Oliver (2005 Vintage) says
Dusty, crisp and generous, this is a zesty young wine with some Alsatian characteristics. Its nutty fragrance of pear, apple and dried flowers precedes a juicy, concentrated and almost crunchy rose nil-like palate whose Iychee, pear and apple flavours finish clean and tangy. It repeals excellent shape and depth of varietal fruit.

An acceptable but fairly neutral pinot gris whose lightly herbal, nutty and spicy aromas of grilled nuts and cloves precede a slightly hot and awkward but savoury palate that finishes with refreshing buttery qualities Lacks genuine shape and definition
