Ross Estate Wines Barossa Cabernet Merlot

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Ross Estate make highly reliable wines in their boutique Barossa winery and they have made the grade once again as a recipient for quality in the James Halliday Annual Wine Guide. The blend of Cabernet Merlot is not one we associate with the Barossa but this is a fine example of how the rich fruited Merlot and the structure of Cabernet bond harmoniously. Soft and supple with delicious black fruits and chocolate you’ll find this deliciously moreish.

Winemaker's Notes

The Ross Wines Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon / Merlot is melded to create a seamless blended wine that is soft, juicy and rounded. The nose displays rich forest fruits with savoury spices and undertones of mocha and chocolate. The Cabernet Sauvignon adds the tannin structure and spice to the palate, and the Merlot gives the soft berry flavours and rich silkiness to the finish. The use of seasoned barrels has added spice and toast as a complexing component without being dominant characteristics. A great all year choice.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Firm and muscular; it is certainly cabernet sauvignon which sets the pace. A touch of mint is a small pay-off for the excellent alcohol control.
