Ross Hill Pinnacle Series Cabernet Sauvignon

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Orange is fast becoming the coolest of the cool climates with a whole host of dynamic producers illustrating just what the region is capable of. This Cabernet is made with only the best fruit of each vintage and manages to be elegant, concentrated and multi-dimensional. It’s loaded with Cabernet’s essential black fruited intensity and shows absolute power as it rides the palate. A wine of interest and charm that will make for a cracking combination with roast lamb.

Winemaker's Notes

This, the best, most concentrated cabernet of the vintage was selected from The Ridge, a small part of our Griffin Road home vineyard. Hand picked and naturally fermented by wild yeasts in small open fermenters at our brand new Wallace Lane winery, matured in small French oak for eighteen months, this wine is powerful, aromatic and densely layered, showing the capacity of the Orange region for growing multi dimensional reds of great character.

Expert Reviews

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Bright colour; hand-picked, wild-fermented and matured in French oak barriques for 18 months; this is an intense and potent cabernet, imposing its will with the carrot of blackcurrant and cassis fruit, and the stick of savoury tannins. The combination works well.

WINESTATE (2009 Vintage) says
Eucalypt-dominated nose and warm palate with powerful varietal flavours and good oak interest. "Would be great with beef," thought one judge. 5+
WINESTATE Volume 34 (2011)
James Halliday (2009 Vintage) says
Very good colour, less purple than Tom & Harry; has another layer of extract, taking it well into full-bodied territory, but with so much luscious blackcurrant fruit that it is in balance.
