Rutherglen Estates Burgoyne's Block Mourvedre Shiraz Gr

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Here we have something a tad more medium-bodied out of Rutherglen that would go great with some fat pork sausages and creamy mash. Based on the red wines of southern Rhone, this is a smooth, totally smashable red blend that smells of red berries, blueberries and subtle dried roses and tastes of cherries, plums and soft spice. It's all wrapped up in soft tannins and friendly, bright acidity which makes it a guaranteed 'crowd pleaser'.

Winemaker's Notes

Modelled on the Rhône Valley classics, this blend heralds the delightful reunion of these varieties. Mourvedre is rarely the dominant variety in these traditional ‘Rhone’ blends but the colour, power, structure and intensity of flavour that our Rutherglen Mourvedre displays, allows us to make a unique ‘twist’ to this traditional blend, adding an extra gamey and rich dimension to the Shiraz and Grenache. Shiraz offers lovely berry fruit, pepper and colour richness, while Grenache is the strawberry, candy, vanilla and spicy support variety.

This wine is elegant and has a fragrant delicate aroma of cherries, strawberries with floral notes and spice. It has red berries on the palate, is medium weight with mouth coating fine chalky tannins.
