Sacredtree by Gemtree McLaren Vale Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

If you love big, bold, McLaren Vale Shiraz with both power as well as poise and elegance in spades then you can not go past this Single Vineyard star. Matured for two years in New French Oak it has an impenetrable, opaque colour that is black as night. It has layer after layer of fruit complexity - Blueberry, blackberry, exotic spice and violets well complimented by high quality oak. Luscious in the mouth with lashings of flavour, plush tannins and a luscious full-throttle palate it finishes long and strong guaranteeing a long life ahead and drinking pleasure for the next 10 plus years.

Winemaker's Notes

Good winter rains in 2011 gave the vines plenty of reserves for the 2012 growing season. Spring was dry and mild encouraging even and balanced growth. We shoot thin during the growing season to encourage dappled sunlight on the fruiting zone and to eliminate “crowding” of bunches. Vintage commenced earlier, which allowed us harvest when sugars were low, natural acids high, yet maintaining tannin and phenological ripeness at full maturity. The wines from the 2012 vintage will sit very strongly along side the greats of 1998, 2002 and 2004.

Colour:
Black with purple/red hue.

Nose: Satsuma plums, black currant, chocolate, sweet spices (cinnamon), marshmallow, black jubes and creamy savoury oak.

Palate: A multilayered and complete wine. Combining flavours of dark conserve, marshmallow, plum, boysenberry into a soft creamy integrated palate. The brightness and almost freshness of the wine is attributed to the acidity and tannin which will soften over time. The palate is velvety soft now, but with time will integrate to create a purely remarkable wine.

Food: Gemtree organic lamb cutlets with roasted beetroot, kipfler potatoes and plum jus.

Alcohol: 15.0%

Cellaring: Now-2027.
