Salitage Sauvignon Blanc

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

Wine Critic James Halliday has described Salitage as “the most important winery in the Pemberton region. For more than thirty years John and Jenny Horgan have steered the quality of these wines into a world famous brand".

This Sauvignon is the perfect antidote to the “smack your palate” jolt you get with some of the Kiwi versions of the variety.

Designed to be drunk young with some spicy Asian dishes or a Goats cheese salad, this wine ticks all the tropical fruit boxes. It’s fruit driven and nicely balanced and weighted with flinty minerals and soft acids.

Winemaker's Notes

A range of tropical fruit aromas, pear, gooseberry, passionfruit with subtle herbal undertones and talc notes.

The palate is fruit driven, nicely weighted, shows mineral accents, soft acidity and a long flavoursome finish.

We suggest the wine be consumed while young and fresh.

James Halliday (2012 Vintage) says
Pale quartz-green; estate-grown, with fully mature vines; has abundant varietal expression on its bouquet and palate alike, with passionfruit, guava and lychee to the fore.

The pedigree of Pemberton for making flavoursome sauvignon blanc is on full display here, showing a flinty edge, gravelly savoury notes and plenty of tropicals in the mix. The palate s flavoursome and sweeps deep, with impressively concentrated fleshy tropical fruit flavours.

This has been a consistent wine for Salitage for some years. Love the floral notes on the nose with traces of gooseberry and crunchy lime juice. Plenty of vibrant tropical fruit on the palate with a fine crisp acid sustaining a very long finish, Excellent current drinking.

A fragrant and floral bouquet of passionfruit blossom and honeysuckle, then a lively, crisp palate, long and quite intense; very good outcome for the vintage; well made.
