Sally's Paddock Red Blend

Expert Reviews

Jeremy Oliver (2010 Vintage) says
Deep, elegant and ageworthy, this finely balanced and structured cabernet blend has a heady, floral and faintly minty bouquet of violets, cassis, raspberries, dark plums and redcurrants knit with lightly toasty vanilla oak. It's smooth and polished, with a pure line of ripe red, black and blue berry and plum flavours backed by fine-grained oak and dusty tannins. Briary and rustic, it finishes with a persistent core of fruit and a hint of cherry kernel.

Good colour; a luscious array of gently spicy black fruits and licorice on the bouquet and palate; has the tannin structure to underpin a decade-plus in bottle.

Attractive, clean, medium-bodied wine; red and black fruits are supported by a web of fine, savoury tannins and balanced oak; not effusive, but shows its pedigree

Jeremy Oliver (2006 Vintage) says
Very closed, firm and withdrawn, this deeply flavoured, complex and firmly structured young red will take several years to flower. Dark and smoky, with deep flavours of blackberries, dark plums and dark chocolate-like oak, it's long, earthy and meaty, with a drying, rather firm and tough backbone of ripe, powdery tannins and a pleasingly persistent core of fruit. Give it time.

Fragrant and lighter-bodied than Sally's Hill; lively earthy tones to the Bordeaux blend of this wine; rough edges on the finish need to settle down.

Stylish, smooth and elegant, with a floral and brambly perfume of violets, cassis, redcurrants, plums and mulberries over restrained dusty cedar/vanilla oak and spicy suggestions of dried herbs and lanolin. Framed by firmish, pliant and dusty tannins, its layers of pristine small berry flavours, lightly toasty and dark chocolate oak finish with lingering nuances of herbs, vanilla and undergrowth. Fine shape and balance.

Similar colour to the Cabernet; an elegant wine with cassis, blackcurrant and spice backed by lingering, fine, savoury tannins; good oak.

Jeremy Oliver (2004 Vintage) says
A beautifully crafted and balanced red of inert strength that slowly unfolds layers of penetrative flavour. Its heady bouquet of brambly blackcurrant and redcurrant aromas, violets and sweet, cedar/gamey oak overlie slightly wild and meaty nuances. Long, sumptuous and fine-grained, its brightly lit palate of pristine berry, cherry and plum like fruit knits tightly with smooth oak and a mouth-coating presence of fine, firm tannins. Effortlessly natural, with lingering juicy and meaty qualities.
