Sandalford Element Classic White
Shining like a beacon, the white blends of WA herald a distinctive charm and none more so than this blend from Sandalford. It’s a combination of Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, Verdelho and Chardonnay, so just about anything aromatic you can think of really. It’s lifted with honeydew melon and citrus and then reveals a tropical fruit palate that’s balanced and harmonious with a soft finish. Drink chilled with a heap of seafood.
Nose: Not surprisingly given the Chardonnay content there is a real peachy fruit lift to this wine. The Granny Smith apple notes from the Chenin certainly add another dimension.
Palate: Crisp, dry white wine with clean fruit, balanced acidity and a soft finish. Perfect summer drinking. Serve well chilled and drink whilst young and alive.

This blend continues the outstanding quality reached by Sandalford and winemaker, Paul Boulden, with this wine from the previous vintage. And so it should, as 2007 was a fantastic year in Western Australia. This is a blend of chenin blanc, verdelho and semillon, most of which was sourced from the Swan Valley- an area which is particularly suited to aromatic varieties such as chenin and verdelho. What made this exceptional was the coolest vintage ever in the Swan. Certainly Perth had its coldest December and the summer has been the coolest in 50 years. This meant that the ripening period was longer and slower than usual and so the wines have an unusually cool edge with taut, crisp acidity and a full flavour ripeness. It's another triumph for Paul Boulden and the team at Sandalford, a spectacularly good white blend -perhaps the best I've seen in this category in the seven years that I've been tasting for Quaff. Amazingly, this blend of verdelho, chenin blanc and semillon contains no sauvignon blanc at all - surprising because the wine is absolutely brimming with passionfruity, tropical, zesty fruit flavours you'd expect more from savvy.
