Sandalford Element Late Harvest

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

A sticky from Sandalford, how could we say no? You’ll find this late harvest wine an intoxicating addition to any sweet desserts or some washed rind cheeses. This aromatic sweet style shows notes of pineapple and apricot before a super luscious palate of tropical fruit flavours. It’s balanced, sweet and long but with a rich vein of acids on the finish meaning it is not cloying on the palate.

Winemaker's Notes

Made from a blend of premium white grapes from our Margaret River Vineyard. The grapes were harvested in the cool of the night during February 2015. Following crushing and pressing, the juice underwent a cool fermentation to protect their delicate tropical flavours. Fermentation was stopped early, which allowed us to retain some of the natural sugars from the grapes in the wine to give it the desired sweetness. The benefit of this is that we realise much lower alcohol content, making this not only fruity and sweet, but also light-bodied in style. All in all a great package and a much loved wine which, as always, should be served well chilled.

Colour: Pale lemon

Nose: Full of tropical fruits. Think pineapples, guava and passionfruit with enticing honey notes

Palate: Just like the nose suggests with tropical flavours in abundance, luscious sweetness without being unctuous and low alcohol really driving home the softness and appeal of this wine

Varietal breakdown: Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Semillon & Verdelho

This Western Australian sweet wine is a blend of just about everything - mainly verdelho with sauvignon blanc, riesling and chardonnay - but it works. Lifted tropical fruit flavours build on the fresh, bright and lively palate with generous sweetness and cleansing acidity.

Clean; highly aromatic lemony aromas; not much off-dry; will develop; nice style.

Medium yellow-green; attractive aromatic, spicy aromas are followed by a palate with lime and spice flavours, lively acidity and freshness adding to the length. Unusual, but has real character and quality.

With an extra year's bottle age, this reliable blend from late-harvested grapes from the Sandalford winery in Western Australia has fattened out a bit and tastes like tinned pineapple and grapefruit juice - but in a good, luscious, attractive way.
