Scotchmans Hill Bellarine Peninsula Riesling

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

If this was not a wine, it would be a go-cart! It's zippy, racy and nimble on its feet, with plenty of fruit fuel to back it up. Aromas of lemons, limes and grapefruits leap out of the glass, an onto the surprisingly dry, rich and creamy palate, all backed up by brisk acidity, a creamy mouthfeel, and a bright, long finish. Great with butter-poached shellfish.

Winemaker's Notes

Appearance: Mid straw with a green hue.

Nose: Lifted floral blossom with scents of lime and citrus fruits showing a hint of toastyness.

Palate: A rich and full palate dominated with intense lime and citrus flavours, leading to underlying characters of toasted spice adding complexity. A tight mineral edge provides the wine with structure and longevity.

Cellaring: Drink now to 2017.

Firm lime and mineral aromas and flavours, but tails away rather than accelerates on the finish.

James Halliday (2004 Vintage) says
Plenty of honest flavour, but lacks the focus and precision of wines from inland regions; riesling does not like to be beside the seaside.
