Scotchmans Hill Estella McLaren Vale Shiraz

Cracka Rating

Cracka Review

This is a refreshing change from the usual Scotchmans Hill wines, mainly due to the reduced use of oak to let the fruit come bursting through. Smells and tastes of ripe plums and dark berries come to the fore, along with slurps of dark chocolate and anise spice. It's all wrapped up in bright acidity and a solid line of tannins that should see this little pup kick on for a couple of years yet. Did we mention it is excellent value?

Winemaker's Notes

A complex nose displaying dark fruits and plums, spice, liquorice and chocolate with vanillin oak. The palate is full and rich with sweet dark fruits and plums, with a spice and chocolate mid palate and a vanillin oak finish. The wine is rounded out by firm acid and tannin and should be enjoyed over the next 2 to 4 years.

James Halliday (2010 Vintage) says
Deep purple-crimson; this wine delivers infinitely more than its price suggests; it is full of fragrant plum and blackberry fruit shot through with licorice and bitter chocolate; the tannins are fine, the French and American oak not the least obvious. Drinker sooner or later.

Jeremy Oliver (2010 Vintage) says
Elegant and spicy, with a dusty, clove-like and dark-fruited fragrance of plums, blackberries backed by complex, meaty and funky nuances. It's long and smooth, with a raisined expression of black and red fruits and older oak framed by pliant, loose-knit tannins, finishing gentle, savoury and faintly greenish, with a lingering core of fruit and licorice.
