expert reviews about

Selaks Founders Reserve Hawke's Bay Merlot Franc

Expert Reviews

Michael Cooper (2002 Vintage) says
The 2001 vintage under the Founders Reserve label is an unblended Marlborough Merlot, dark and youthful, with substantial body, very good depth of blackcurrant/plum flavours and slightly chewy tannins. In 2002 the region of origin switched to Hawke's Bay and Cabernet Franc was added to the recipe. Harvested in the Ngatarawa district at over 24 brix and matured for 14 months in new and one-year-old French oak casks, it's a highly attractive wine, very elegant, concentrated and supple, with impressive depth of fully ripe blackcurrant and plum flavours, good balance and complexity
