Finesse is the keynote quality of the brilliant debut 1996 vintage Hand-picked from "prime terraces" in the estate vineyard near Renwick, it was fermented in all-new French oak barriques and matured on its yeast lees for 11 months. To soften the wine and add complexity, 100 per cent went through malolactic fermentation. The result is a morable wine, intensely fragrant and robust (13. 5 per cent alcohol), with an exciting concentration of vibrant, nutty, mealy flavour and firm acid spine. This is a classically proportioned, exceptionally well-structured wine - a top candidate for the cellar.
