The stylish 1996 vintage is a Marlborough blend of Pinot Noir (60 per cent) and Chardonnay. Half the base wine was matured in new French oak barrels before its second fermentation in the bottle, and the wine was disgorged after three years on its yeast lees. The yeasty, slightly toasty and limey bouquet leads into a crisp, elegant, slightly lean, bone-dry wine with good yeast autolysis and vigour.
